↑ SEE GOD’S GREATNESS: The key to seeing God’s greatness is to see God’s miracles.
God wants us to see His greatness. The key to this is to see His MIRACLES. King Nebuchadnezzar and the land of Babylon came to faith by SEEING the MIRACLE in the fiery furnace!
I sometimes hear preachers say: “One should not preach about healing and miracles, only practice the gospel.” Where do they get that from? The Bible contains many testimonies and preachings on this subject. How are we supposed to preach about the many miracles of the Bible without preaching what the text says? Nonsense!
ONE of the strongest miracle messages came from a non-believing, pagan king. Three Jewish men refused to bow down and worship a large statue of the Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar. The king became angry, lit up a large fiery furnace seven times stronger than usual. The king's men threw the Jewish men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, into the fiery furnace. They would not bow down and worship the king.
Nebuchadnezzar was astonished when he later saw that the fire had not touched them. He could even observe a “son of God.” The three Jewish heroes came out of the furnace without burns: “There is no injury to see on them,” (Daniel 3:25). All the king's great men could behold a tremendous miracle.
Then the greatest miracle preacher of that time stood up and said:
“Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego! He sent His angel and saved His servants who trusted in Him and defied the king's word. They risked their lives not to worship any other god than their own God. Therefore, I now decree that whoever speaks against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego – whatever people or nation or language they belong to – shall be cut in pieces, and their house shall be made a garbage heap, for there is no other God who can save like this. And the king gave Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego honor and power in the province of Babylon.”
Daniel 3:28–30
“King Nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace and prosperity be multiplied to you! I thought it good to DECLARE the SIGNS and WONDERS that the Most High God has worked for me. How GREAT are His signs, and how MIGHTY His wonders. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation.”
Daniel 4:1–3
What a wonderful sermon of faith! Here he stands as the Old Testament's greatest evangelist, asking people all over the earth to believe in the God of Israel!! He humbled himself under God, came to faith in Him, and preached repentance, faith, signs, and wonders! With a single handshake, revival spread over the whole land of Babylon. Thanks to a HUGE MIRACLE! What do we need to do to bring Norway and the West back to God again? We need to present many great signs, wonders, and miracles, through the power of God. As Paul says:
“…to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, by the power of signs and wonders.”
Romans 15:18–19
The world is not saved just through good sermons, beautiful church buildings, skillful Christian musicians, and attractive theological titles. It is possible that church fathers like Augustine, Luther, and Calvin unfortunately believed so – but it is totally wrong. Since they believed that miracles largely ceased with the time of the apostles, topics like healing and miracles are almost absent at the theological colleges in the West.
What does it say about Jesus?
When He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name WHEN THEY SAW the signs which He did.
John 2:23
Jesus was first and foremost a healing preacher. Two of the three years He worked consisted of healing the sick and casting out evil spirits (Luke 13:32). Yet, many healing preachers today must stand outside many church doors, not being welcomed in. Cultural and environmental inputs are well received, but not the gospel in power!
But – to all comfort in a time with a “perverse generation”: Most and greatest miracles Jesus performed were outside the established, religious hierarchy. The key to success is to go where the fish are and in places where they are biting. Jesus asked us to go out “into the streets and lanes of the city... into the highways and hedges, and COMPEL them to come in” (Luke 14:21, 23). Jesus also went “outside the camp” (Hebrews 13:13).
