↑ NOT STATUS QUO: Caption in italics I have never been satisfied with the status quo. I have an insatiable longing and urge to reach the ends of the earth with the world's best message.
“And the apostles said to the Lord: Increase our faith!” They desired greater progress in their life of faith. A divine restlessness for more. MORE!
When I look back on my own life of faith, I see growth. But almost all growth has come through trials. Right after I studied theology for four years at Ansgarskolen in Oslo, we moved to Mo i Rana. It was the summer of 1973. I was new and unknown in the field and had no “spiritual father” to give me advice and guidance. God let me “walk on water” alone.
Solveig got a teaching position at Hauknes school just outside Mo i Rana. First step of faith: I got a loan from a bank and bought a 16 mm film projector. I knew a man in Halden who had exclusive rights to Billy Graham films. I contacted him and started “Billy Graham Filmservice.”
We joined the Baptist Church in Mo. The pastor there, Fritz Trovi, was from Storselsøy on the Helgeland coast. He had many contacts along the coast and arranged a route for me with meetings at different places up the coast: On September 1, 1973, I came to Reppasjøen in Tjongsfjorden. Here I was to have some meetings in a small Baptist church. I consider that date as the beginning of my work as an evangelist: September 1, 1973, in a small Baptist church called Eben Eser, in the small place Breivik in Tjongsfjorden.
This was my first step of faith as a preacher: I took a loan from a bank and bought a film projector (thanks to Solveig's position as a teacher). I started with film, ventured into new territory – the Helgeland coast. People were saved when they heard and saw Billy Graham speak on the three by three meter screen that I carried on the roof rack of my yellow Mazda 818. But – it wasn't long before I spoke myself. And people were saved also when I spoke.
I have never been satisfied with the status quo. I have an insatiable longing and urge to reach the ends of the earth with the world's best message. We still push forward and can, by God's grace, look back on great victories – but not without great trials and suffering. It goes with the territory. Woe to us if we stop challenging the devil, worldliness, and unbelief!
