It is quite shocking to read about the school system in India. Statistics can indicate that out of 1.4 billion people, 287 million are illiterate.
The caste system leads to the highest castes having easiest access to schooling, while the casteless are easily overlooked.
Being unable to read, write, and do arithmetic sets one back in the workplace. But now we want to do something about it. Together with our leaders in India, opportunities for education have been set up in 50 different locations. There are approximately 30 students in each class. Our Indian leaders have contacted 50 assistant teachers and thoroughly reviewed a curriculum with them. They have also procured textbooks for all the students. At the end of the school term, all students will receive a certificate, which will prove that they are no longer illiterate.
Through this opportunity, we also have the ability to preach the gospel to the students. Principal Dibya at our Bible institute can report that it is estimated that almost all of the non-Christian students will come to salvation during their schooling.
The school lasts for 12 months. A couple of months ago the schools were opened. The demand has been great. After this school year, we will start a new batch, preferably in new locations, so that the gospel can spread further in new areas of India. Principal Dibya believes that the next batch will consist of even more students, possibly up to 4500. This is how we will continue moving forward. A great opportunity for our ministry! Thanks to all our supporters!
