↑ CANCELED AND INVITED: Solveig and Svein-Magne's flight from Schipol airport was canceled – and this led to a Muslim and his wife being invited to get to know Jesus.
Solveig and I were sitting calmly at Schiphol Airport today, waiting for the flight to Vancouver to depart. Then we received a message that the flight had been canceled. I was frustrated by an abrupt, unexpected change and had to tell myself that God is Lord over unexpected things that happen.
I said to Solveig that God might use this unforeseen event for the best for something or someone.
We had to rebook our tickets and ended up standing in two long lines before receiving the new boarding passes. While we were standing in line with many others, an Indian couple came and sat next to us. I immediately smiled at him, greeted him, and received a smile in return. When I heard he was from India, I shared with him our significant work there. My new friend enjoyed hearing about our work in his country. He criticized the Indian government for hindering Christians from conducting humanitarian work in the country. They do little themselves to help the poor.
He himself was a Muslim and had attended a Christian school in India, where he learned English. He appreciated that Christians conduct missions in India, where there is extreme poverty. He was trained as a mechanic and a lawyer in India. He worked pro bono as a lawyer for the poor who needed help. But – he was a Muslim, a kind and good Muslim. He had held a trusted position in a mosque for 25 years!
Why did I meet this good and open-hearted Muslim and his wife? God wants me to start praying for him and his family, that they may be saved. I felt that he was not far from Jesus. Furthermore, God wanted me not to be prejudiced against our Muslim friends. There are millions of them who need Jesus. Not all of them are radical and violent. This can also be said about my new Muslim friend who moved from the large city of Mumbai in India to another large city – the Olympic city of Vancouver in Canada a few years ago. God sent him and his wife to us today, on November 29, 2025.
Thanks to an annoying flight cancellation at Schiphol, Amsterdam. Here is my prayer for myself and many others: “God, enlarge our hearts and minds so that our spiritual narrow-mindedness does not prevent the Gospel from reaching the millions whom Jesus's heart longs to save. Let them hear the Gospel preached with power and open their hearts to salvation.”
When we do not reach them, may Jesus meet them in dreams at night!!
