↑ HEAVEN IS THE GOAL: I spent an hour with these wonderful Kurds from Iraq. Each of them received the tract '5 minutes to heaven' in Norwegian.
As an evangelist, I am used to looking for people to witness to. You must go where the fish are. But when the 'fish' comes to you, a very special situation arises.
Sunday, September 14, I was on my way home after a healing meeting at the Pentecostal Church Salen, Ski, the night before. A great meeting that lasted six hours. My friend Milo from Oslo drove me from Ski to the Central Station. I had plenty of time before the train from Oslo was to depart. I found myself a good spot on a bench by a table. On the other side of the table, there was also a bench that was part of the seating group.
Sitting with Muslims
Then I noticed four men looking for a place to sit. Carefully, one of them came over to me and politely asked if he and a friend could sit with me. My antennas were up: God was setting up 'a divine encounter.' But the man with broken Norwegian showed great boldness and asked if a friend of his could sit next to me on my bench. Before I could answer, he came and sat beside me. Then the other two came. Suddenly, we were four, plus me.
They told about themselves: One worked in transportation, one was a cleaner, the third was a chef, and the fourth was a taxi driver. Out of the blue, 'I was suddenly at a set table.' They were all Kurds from Iraq. They had come to Norway in the years 1998 and 1999 and had experienced family reunification a few years later.
Muslims heard about Jesus
The men had bought coffee and brought small cakes which they laid on the table in front of us. I told them that I was a preacher and had spoken at a meeting the night before. I told them about our work and pulled out my pamphlet, '5 Minutes to Heaven.' 'Here I write about Jesus,' I said. As soon as I mentioned Jesus, they exclaimed: 'Jesus!' They all liked him, as he is mentioned in the Quran. I showed them the 'bridge illustration' from the pamphlet. They willingly followed along. I talked about miracles and praying for the sick. I asked if any of them were ill. The taxi driver next to me had a bit of pain in his left shoulder. I asked if I could pray for the shoulder. Yes, I could, the nice man replied and rolled up his shirt sleeve. Then I told about God's 'holy oil.' They had no problem believing in that. I prayed for the man. Then he told me about a sick friend. I prayed for the sick friend and gave him the small oil bottle and said, 'Now you can anoint your friend with oil twice a day. When you run out of oil, you can contact me.' This he wanted to do.
I sat for an hour with these wonderful Kurds from Iraq. Each of them took the '5 Minutes to Heaven' pamphlet in Norwegian. 'Next time I come to Oslo, we will have a hamburger together,' I said to them. Yes, they all wanted that. We had become friends. It's called 'friendship evangelism.'
Missed the train!!
I said goodbye to my new friends to catch the train home to Vennesla, Norway. I misread the board and went to the wrong exit. The train left without me, and I had to take a later train!
In the meantime, I went to a restaurant near where the Kurds were sitting. This led to me meeting a man who recognized me. He left the table at the restaurant, came towards me, and said, 'Is it Svein-Magne? I am a supporter of Jesus Heals Ministries, but I am sick. Can you pray for me?' I found the oil bottle, anointed him, and prayed for healing. Had I not missed the train, I would not have met him! Perhaps God confused my mind so that I was late for the train? Read about him elsewhere on my Facebook page.
One of the first things I said to Solveig when she picked me up at the train station in Vennesla, Norway, was: 'Oslo is fantastic! It teems with people and cultures.' I wanted to take the train back again.
People are my life. God has called us to reach the world with the Gospel. And we do so in Jesus Heals Ministries in many ways. But now the focus was on four friendly Kurds at the Central Station in Oslo and a sick man who needed help. Sometimes you have to search for the 'fish', other times the fish ends up 'in your lap' before you know it. As it happened on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
