Was blind in one eye: Else Berit Schøne now reads the newspaper without glasses—ten years after she was healed from blindness.
For 11 years, Else Berit has lived in Gol in Hallingdal.
“I originally come from Drammen. That is where I started and managed the Kameratklubben, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. This was started as an initiative for drug addicts. Later, similar camaraderie clubs were formed in 30 different places in Norway,” says the 74-year-old.
Without a doubt, it is a caring person with a big heart for the weakest in society we are talking to on the phone. She would have liked to continue, but felt drained of energy after the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, it was demanding to run such large care work for so many years.
“Don’t need glasses until I'm 95 years old”
Else Berit sees so well and has 100 percent vision. She loves reading both newspapers and books. Particularly, she likes to read Svein-Magne Pedersen’s magazine Legedom, which she misses. She says it has not arrived in her mailbox for a long time.
“So you don’t use glasses?”
“No, I won’t need those until I’m 95 years old,” she answers with laughter in her voice.
That she sees so well, she thanks Jesus for. For Else Berit has experienced a mighty miracle. Her friend is sitting in the same room when we call. She is happy to add and can confirm that what is being told is true. For she was there the time her friend was prayed for.
Cancer in the thyroid gland
It started back when she lived in Fredrikstad, where she ran a contact center for several years. She was at a check-up with her doctor just before she had packed her things to move to Gol, for she hadn’t felt well for a long time. She was up day and night, because she was unwell.
– The next day he called and told me to come at once. I said I had gotten a new GP in Gol.
She was informed that she had cancer in the thyroid gland. It led to an emergency operation at Drammen Hospital in the summer of 2010.
Became Blind
Cancer in the thyroid gland can often lead to blindness. Else Berit experienced this. Her left eye had become very large.
It was protruding. So was the pupil. It resembled goiter. One Tuesday her thyroid gland was removed. The same week she had a major eye operation.
– But I did not get better. In the left eye, I saw nothing.
It was one night that the Lord spoke to her about going to Svein-Magne Pedersen to ask for intercession.
– I told my friend, "Tomorrow we are going to Vennesla, Norway for intercession, and then we will see what God will do." She thought I must have lost it, for she had mentioned it several times. I believed in healing through prayer. But I had said no because I didn't want to stand in a long line to be prayed for.
The Great Miracle
The two friends got in the car and drove the long way from Gol to Vennesla, Norway, a whole 470 km and a 5.5-hour drive. They went on a whim, for they hadn't booked an appointment.
– We arrived at the center, but no one opened. As we sat in the car to drive home, Svein-Magne came driving. He said he didn't have time, as he was about to be on the radio with a program shortly, but then he called us. We went into the office with him. I sat on a chair in the middle of the floor. He placed both his hands on my eyes and prayed. A strong warmth flowed into my eyes, especially the left one. As I opened my eyes, I could see clearly and noticed that there were beautiful flowers and patterns on the walls in the room. Since then, I have seen clearly. I have a hundred percent vision and read without glasses. The doctors had operated to remove the cancer in the thyroid gland, but there was something left. A new examination showed that all the cancer had disappeared after intercession.
Else Berit says this happened ten years ago. It is an anniversary for intercession that resulted in good vision. She and her friend would like to celebrate it with a marzipan cake.
Blood clot in the right eye
But then, a couple of years ago, the 74-year-old started having problems with her right eye. After that, she experienced blurred vision in the eye.
“I blamed the corona pandemic and the fact that I was tired. I had been running the Comrade Club by myself for a long time.”
It turned out that Else Berit had a blood clot in her eye. It can be operated on, but not in her case since the blood clot had burst and spread. The doctor said that only 40 percent vision remained in the eye.
Svein-Magne Pedersen says he called her a few days ago, in March.
“She didn’t mention anything about the right eye. I just wanted to check in and arranged with her for a TV recording the following Sunday. While I was talking to her, her friend came through the door – as a visitor. Else Berit said to me: ‘Svein-Magne, you must pray for her, she has migraines.’ I prayed for the migraine and said goodbye to Else Berit. A few days later, Else Berit called me and said that when I prayed for Margrethe’s migraine, her right eye was healed from the damage caused by the blood clot!! I didn’t know anything about the blood clot! She regained a hundred percent vision in the right eye!”
Important to testify about Jesus
Else Berit says on the phone that she still goes once a month to the doctor to get injections in the retina against the blood clot.
“Have you told your doctor that you have been healed and regained your sight?”
“I told him once. But he just laughed at me. Then I said to the doctor, ‘You must believe in Jesus. Then you can see for yourself that healing through prayer happens.’ What I experienced ten years ago is still just as great for me. When I meet people I haven’t talked to in a long time, I share what I’ve experienced. It is important to testify about Jesus in our time. It is especially important when we live in a turbulent time with wars and unrest. And it is important to preach the gospel because I am sure that Jesus is coming again soon,” says Else Berit, wishing God’s blessing from herself and her friend.
