Svein-Magne Pedersen and Surinder from India

↑ A TAXI RIDE TOWARD HEAVEN: Svein-Magne and the Sikh Surinder who comes from the state of Punjab in India and belongs to the Sikh religion.

We were on a short mission trip and had the opportunity to witness through a taxi ride with the Indian man Surinder.

Surinder is from the state of Punjab in India and belongs to the Sikh religion. For 40 years he has been a taxi driver in the metropolitan city of Vancouver. He says that the Sikhs believe in one god (as opposed to the Hindus with 48 million gods!). The Sikhs have a large “holy book” that lies on a table in all Sikh temples. At weddings, the bridal couple must walk four times around the table with the holy book. They do this to show respect for the book and for the 10 gurus who wrote the Sikhs’ bible several hundred years ago.

Their bible says that people should take care of the poor, and is something Sikhs all over the world practice. Anyone can walk into a Sikh temple and eat their fill—24 hours a day! No one needs to go hungry in such places, as wealthy Sikhs donate food to the temples.

I was praying for Surinder the whole time while he took us to our destination. Suddenly, I received a word of knowledge from God: “He has a son and three daughters.” I was sitting in the front seat of his large yellow taxi. I turned my head, looked at him and said: “Do you have a son and three daughters?” Surinder answered immediately. “Yes, I have a son and three daughters.” I said to him: “God told me so.” Immediately he opened up to me even more and told me that his wife was a Catholic and that he had occasionally attended meetings with her. Now I got to share the gospel with him and about the two destinations of life. The pleasant man from India accepted the message with an open heart and received my salvation tract.

The word of knowledge gave me a better entry into his heart. I got his phone number and he has mine. The 72-year-old did not mind me writing on Facebook about our pleasant hour-and-a-half meeting in his yellow taxi. I will continue to pray for him! We need to reach out to the world’s 30 million Sikhs! I love them!
