↑ FISHERS OF MEN: Evangelist Ken walked back and forth outside the shopping center "Save-On-Foods" in the town of Abbotsford, Canada, sharing the gospel with people when Svein-Magne met him.
On one of my trips, I met 85-year-old Ken! A bold evangelist in a throng of people.
He walked back and forth outside a shopping center in the city of Abbotsford, Canada, boldly handing out tracts. He often used to do this. I received a small four-page tract. On the first page, it read: “Why did Jesus die?” As a true evangelist, he presented the gospel in a nutshell to the people. Many things in life are important, but some are “most important.” Why did Jesus come? He describes his mission as follows:
“To seek and save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:10
He came to save sinners! Being saved and delivered from the eternal flames of hell is more important to know than which grocery chain is the cheapest, or which Greek island is the best holiday destination. Unfortunately, the world is asleep, and they walk blindly. Jesus calls us the “light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). Our calling is “to bear witness of the light” (John 1:8) and to awaken people from spiritual slumber. This was the call of the Bible’s greatest prophet, John the Baptist. It is also our calling. Jesus said:
“You shall be my witnesses.”
Acts 1:8
Having a tract in your pocket that simply shows the way to salvation is as important as the rifle for a soldier. In a busy world, people do not always have time to listen to the message. Then a salvation tract can be of great help to people later. A tract also provides an opportunity for contact. And if you do not dare to stop people to give them life’s most important message, you can place the tract in different places where it can be seen, such as in the pocket of the airplane seatback, in doctors’ offices, or other public places where people gather. It is good to have the tract in several languages, for today we speak of “multiculture.” When we do not go out to where different people live, God uses other methods: He sends people to us as refugees. They become our neighbors.
Fisher of men Ken was a strategist. He knew where it was easiest to “catch fish” – right outside a shopping center. Here, people come and go all the time. That's where I met him. 85 years old and “still going strong” to complete his life's course. If you lack tracts, I recommend my tract: “5 minutes to heaven.” In Norwegian or English. Read more about the message of salvation.
We can go for you! If you cannot go out with the gospel yourself, you are welcome to send your support to our foundation, and we can “go for you,” or we can send your support to our evangelists around the world who also “can go for you.” Thus, you become indirectly a fisher of men through your gift.
