God wants us to be concerned with what His Word says, without human crutches. “To walk in faith” according to God's plans for our lives, is to disregard traditional crutches and philosophical thought patterns. The quote is from 2 Corinthians 5:7.
We must stop relying on traditions, experiences, and people, for they can fail. “To walk in faith” means to walk in faith in His Word ALONE. God asked Abraham to “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1). He had to leave his country and his family and go to the land that God had designated for him.
Abraham had no human guarantees that this would go well, no life insurance or maps to follow. He had to travel quite alone through a perilous land. This would be a day-to-day experience where he had to LEARN to trust God's protection for each step he took. Abraham had only God's promise alone to rely on: “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:1–2)
This is faith: To act on the Word ALONE, relying on God's promises and ONLY them. Then one must set traditions aside and not rely on past experiences. Like Peter when he walked on the sea. In faith in Jesus’ “COME!” alone, he experienced a miracle. As long as he was focused on Jesus ALONE and not on the distracting waves and gusts of wind, he could walk on top of the waves, on top of the problems.
Do we have problems in the family, at school, at work, in the congregation – what do we do then? Find the promises from Scripture that apply to the problem you are facing – READ the promises, MEDITATE on them, and CONFESS them loudly many times a day. Then the Spirit of faith will be drawn in, and God’s finger will begin to touch us and those around us. Then we walk in faith and not by sight – that means we must not SEE before we dare to believe. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things NOT SEEN.” (Hebrews 11:1) The message is reversed. We believe FIRST, then we experience the fruit of faith: a miracle. Jesus said to the doubting Thomas: “Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)
Jesus said to Martha: “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” (John 11:40) Then he raised their brother Lazarus from the dead! Faith comes before the experience of a miracle. The miracle is a fruit of faith in God's promises – God's promises alone. “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God.” (Hebrews 11:3) Away with all traditional false crutches. Faith needs only one word: “But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed,” said the centurion to Jesus (Matthew 8:8). We need ONLY one word from the Lord. That is enough for a miracle. We have not only God's word that we can trust that God has kept His promises to the one who has chosen to believe in His Word – we have several thousand years of experience confirming that it is true! Faith is a choice: CHOOSE TO BELIEVE! Then I say to your sickness: GO – in Jesus’ name!
