To be able to understand God’s thoughts, we need to fill ourselves with God's word. The power and strength do not come from ourselves, but from God's word. The effect of the Word “enlightens the eyes” (Psalm 19:8, NKJV).
Something happens when we listen to the Word. The Bible says that God's word is “living and powerful” (Hebrews 4:12, NKJV). Jesus says: “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63, NKJV) In other words: God's word has renewing, healing, and creative power. It can create life!
The Word enlightens the heart so that we see the necessity of salvation. Therefore, the Bible says:
“Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.”
1 Peter 1:23, NKJV
That the Word is “incorruptible” means that it contains eternal, heavenly power, a power that does not fade over time, as a battery does. The Bible compares it to “seed” – meaning: life-giving, regenerative and it can bring hope of healing. That the Word is described as “seed” also means that the Word can be planted, grow, and appear in a greater capacity, a harvest. Jesus says that God's word is essential for having a spiritual fellowship with God:
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4, NKJV
And if it can be planted, it must be planted in good, fertile soil, in a good heart. By faith, it can be planted in a sick body so that the power of the Word breaks the disease. The Word has healing power in it; it “lives and abides.”. It has power both to heal and to maintain healing. Through preaching, the Word can be sent to others:
“He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”
Psalm 107:20, NKJV
Therefore, it is important that we preach “the word of faith” with a living expectation that God's powerful word will work wonders:
“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach)
Romans 10:8, NKJV
God's word is God's medicine. By daily reading, meditating upon, and proclaiming God's word and promises, we can live in a continuous flow of healing and good health. The power of the Word can then keep disease away from us.
