How is Jesus Heals Ministries organized? Where does the economy come from? Jesus Heals Ministries is a foundation that receives tax-free donations with one goal in mind: To conduct mission and evangelism to the whole world. Counselling and prayer are part of the purpose. We have a great motto: “The whole gospel to the whole world.”
We started out small on January 2, 1990. We rented an office in the old dairy building, right in the center of Vennesla. Solveig and a friend of ours, Bjørn. Bjørn and I bought used office equipment in Kristiansand. Eventually, we got telephone lines installed, and the first computer was purchased. We called the foundation Jesus Heals Ministries. The name was a declaration. It stood for an important truth. A friend of mine from Skien had himself created a foundation. Based on his setup, we applied to the County Governor in Vest-Agder for permission to establish a foundation. With minor adjustments, the foundation was approved on April 6, 1990.
I had compiled a number of names and addresses of people I had previously met at meetings around Norway. Our son Kenneth was (and is) good with data. He created an address register. I have always had a knack for writing and participated in several journalism courses. In addition, I was a journalist for the newspaper Fosna-Folket from 1979–1981. With this experience in hand, we decided to publish our own magazine. We called it *Legedom*. The first issue was released in December 1990. In 1991, I started the Legedom Publishing House. My first book, “When God Works Wonders,” was published that year. I have now written 21 books.
All our children helped out in the early days – while attending junior high school, high school, and later university. They are “born into the foundation.” All of them now work there together with their spouses, some in Norway and others at our mission posts in Canada. Solveig is a trained special education teacher. After working for six years in Canada, we moved back to Norway in 1988. Solveig was employed as a teacher at the school here in Vennesla. In 1997, she quit teaching and took on the position of administrative leader at our center in Vennesla.
Win/win – we help you, you help us
Prayer for the sick has become our trademark. It is what we dedicate most of our time to – at our center in Vennesla. It is this side of the gospel we are best known for – healing and salvation. Running such an operation, which has grown and become an international mission organization, is both responsible and exciting. We need at least 1.2 million norwegian kroner (NOK) (120 000 USD) in turnover each month to be able to run the work.
People do not know how much it costs to run this business. Publishing the magazine Legedom costs about 2.5 million NOK a year. Then there are large postal expenses, insurance, monthly repayments on the building, electricity costs, support for missions in several parts of the world, travel expenses, salary expenses, and much more. To be able to meet our obligations, we have had to conduct fundraisers and constantly ask people to support us. If we cannot pay salaries to the employees and what we owe our creditors, we are bankrupt.
The responsibility lies primarily on us who are employed in the foundation. But – I want you who make use of the offer of prayer to also show responsibility. We stretch far to help you with prayer, counselling, and guidance. You draw on our experience and expertise, time, and efforts. Had you gotten an appointment with a psychologist, doctor, physiotherapist, or chiropractor, it would have cost you a lot. We do not demand money, but we take up a collection usually every time someone calls. Jesus says that “a worker is worthy of his wages.” Utilizing another’s time, efforts, and expertise without giving is not fair. But we still do not demand anything. Jesus said: “Give, and it will be given to you.” (Luke 6:38) The Bible speaks of giving “tithes and holy gifts.”
Continuous support is important
I want to encourage everyone who uses our help to give a gift every time they call, as much as possible. From 1992 to 2018, we were on Teletorget and received support from there. It cost 14 kroner per minute to call us then. We ended that arrangement on July 10, 2018. Thereafter, we began to take up a collection, which is a completely normal arrangement in all congregations. Every month, we also usually send out SMS messages asking for support.
In order for us to meet the monthly expenses so that you have somewhere to call – or to receive prayer at the center, I recommend that you support us every month with a mission gift. Some give twice a month. Furthermore: When you have called and received a conversation and prayer, give a voluntary gift to our bank account, VIPPS, or donor phone.
We are two parties involved in deciding the future of Jesus Heals Ministries: Us and you. Thank you to everyone who for years has shown loyalty and love to Jesus Heals Ministries. And thank you to all who see the responsibility and will continue to give as often as you can. The world has the right to hear the world’s best message – through Jesus Heals Ministries! We will keep going until Jesus returns. If you still want to support us. We are standing firm as before without any “resting phase.” And remember: I pray every day for our support partners.
Win-win: We help you – you help us. It is a fair arrangement!
