In the Bible, a Christian is called “a soldier of Christ Jesus.” Paul compares us to an athlete competing for a medal. In God's kingdom, there are rules we must follow to win.
Paul says:
“No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.”
2 Timothy 2:4–5
To his fellow worker Timothy, he says: “Endure hardship as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 2:3)
Every day we must be PURPOSEFUL. We must know WHY we are here in the world, what our MISSION is, and what we must do at all times to fulfill the PURPOSE of our calling. The devil will constantly try to frustrate us and engage us in peripheral, unnecessary things – instead of winning souls for God. Our mission has been clearly and plainly expressed by Jesus in the Great Commission:
“Go therefore and make DISCIPLES of ALL NATIONS.”
Matthew 28:19
The Christian life cannot be compared to life on a cruise ship, but rather life on a warship always in the war zone, with enemies on all sides. English Bibles use “soldier” where we in Norwegian translate “warrior.” Now I am soon going to the office to “contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3). Fortunately, God has equipped us with spiritual weapons that can bring us victory in any attack we face: “and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13). Do you know what the devil hates hearing us say the most?
“You are completely disarmed and defeated because of Jesus' atoning death on the cross and His triumphant resurrection. You are disarmed and completely defeated! You will end up in the everlasting fire in hell!”
Colossians 2:14–15; Revelation 20:10
Then he runs away. He had hoped that we had forgotten the great victory of the cross that covers all people, for all time and in all places. May the Lord bless you with many victories! Utilize the spiritual weapons described in Ephesians 6:10–18.
