The various manifestations of the Spirit
Jesus describes one of the Spirit's manifestations as «wind»:
«The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes.»
John 3:8
This refers to the Holy Spirit, who is here compared to the wind. Like the wind, He can neither be controlled nor understood. All of Jesus' healings occurred through the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:18).
After around 50 years in the service of God's kingdom, I have seen that God can heal in the most wondrous ways.
Once, I was praying for the sick in a congregation in a town outside New York. An evangelist in the town asked his wife to seek out “the Norwegian evangelist” visiting the city. The evangelist's wife had an unusual skin disease for which she had found no cure. While I prayed for her, she felt a warm wind blowing against her body. “Do you have a fan on?” she asked me. “There is no fan here,” I replied. I continued to pray.
Then a cold wind started blowing against her. “Now a cold wind is blowing against me,” she said, surprised. I felt nothing, but I realized that this was a manifestation of the Holy Spirit for her who needed healing. After a few minutes, she discovered that she had been rid of the skin disease. The evangelist's wife went joyfully to tell her husband about this unusual experience. In the original language, the meaning of the word “spirit” is “wind.” On the day of Pentecost, the first Christians could hear something like «a mighty rushing wind» (Acts 2:2). The Spirit manifested as wind.
«The wind blows where it wishes.» We cannot control God's Spirit. He is invisible as the wind and does what He wills, in His way and in His time. He is sovereign and inexplicable to human reason. No wonder, for my ministry is a ministry «in the Spirit», and strange things can happen. But what happens must have a purpose: Healing and glorification of God.
