Call to Be a Witness

In the Bible, believers have many titles. One of them is the word witness. Jesus said:

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me.”

Acts 1:8

A witness should not tell anything other than what they have seen, heard, and experienced. Our calling is not to be an expert in a matter but to recount our personal experience. Your testimony is one of the strongest weapons you have as a witness to non-Christians. No one can refute what you have experienced. In Acts chapter 26, you can read about how Paul testified before King Agrippa about how he was saved.

His testimony has three points: First: how his life was before he was saved (Acts 26:2–11). Second: How he was saved (Acts 26:12–18). Third: How he is now, after being saved (Acts 26:19–23).

This is how you can build your testimony. Write it down in at most three hundred words. Avoid religious clichés and memorize it. Once you have done that, often 50 percent of the fear of witnessing is gone. And remember: Receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit and let His power lead you in your work to win people for God.

Evangelism is the church's most important task. Statistically, 95 percent of Christians have never led a person to salvation. Not everyone is an evangelist, but everyone has a part in the “ministry of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:18). “He who wins souls is wise.” (Proverbs 11:30) Pray for God's wisdom, and you will succeed.
