The power of the Spirit
God sent the Holy Spirit to us on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2). In the power of the Spirit, the gospel was to be preached (Acts 1:8). This would happen through the use of spiritual gifts. Without them, we are powerless and limited in our work in God's kingdom.
Paul said it this way:
"Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant."
1 Cor 12:1)
Regarding his ministry, Paul says:
"And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power."
1 Cor 2:4
For him, the use of spiritual gifts was an important weapon to spread the gospel.
"For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance."
1 Thess 1:5. See also 1 Cor 4:20
Paul urges his coworker Timothy to "stir up the gift of God" which was in him (2 Tim 1:6). We stir it up when we are filled with God's Spirit and begin to use the gift when the need arises.
A gift is not for ourselves, but for others, something we pass on. Pass on what God has given you and receive the blessing in return. The Bible says that all believers have received at least one spiritual gift, a "spiritual talent" that we are to share with others.
"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
1 Pet 4:10
