January 30
The barren Hannah prays for a son – and receives an answer to her prayer:
In her deep anguish, she prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. ... The next morning they rose early and worshiped before the Lord's presence. Then they went back to their home at Ramah. And Elkanah was intimate with Hannah, his wife, and the Lord remembered her. Before the year was out, Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked the Lord for him.”
1 Samuel 1:10, 19–20 (NKJV)
