The devil shall not be defeated – he is defeated

We who believe in Christ do not fight for victory. Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, we already have victory. We believe in and build upon Jesus' victory on the cross over sin, sickness, and death. Satan possesses no power that we must try to overcome. He is already defeated when Jesus on the cross said: "It is finished" (John 19:29). In the original language, it means: "It is paid in full." On the cross, Jesus crushed the devil's power:

"Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in the cross."

Colossians 2:15

When we act on His authority, built on Jesus' victory on the cross, we can daily triumph over the devil. In His strength, we are invincible! Thanks to Jesus' victory, we can "be more than conquerors through Him who loved us" (Romans 8:37). Through the armor God offers us, we can become "standing after having overcome all." (Ephesians 6:13). This is "the language of faith." You are no longer a loser, but one who triumphs! The eyes of faith see further than our physical eyes. (1 John 4:4; 5:4-5)

Just like criminals who stand against the laws of the land, the devil and his demons will operate in the world until the believers put their foot down and use their God-given authority to break the enemy's power. Jesus said:

"Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

Luke 10:19
