Illness – an Enemy
Sickness is an enemy that rarely gives up without a fight. That's why it says that Jesus «rebuked» the fever in Peter's mother-in-law and healed her (Luke 4:39). In the original Greek, the word «rebuke» means «to speak sternly to». He treated illness as an enemy. Don't become so familiar with the sickness that you see it as some kind of friend you can «cuddle» with and love to talk about. It is unhealthy and builds up the influence of a spirit of self-pity. Do everything you can to be healed.
For Jesus, sickness was an enemy that boldly and brazenly invaded God's property, our bodies. Therefore, he almost emptied towns and villages of diseases. Conquer the sickness with the right weapons: The prayer of faith, the confession of faith in the promises, and the laying on of hands. All this is built on the gospel which «is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes» (Romans 1:16).
The Bible does not give sickness a good commendation:
«God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.»
Hebrews 10:38
