Keys to Success as a Fisher of Men
There are five keys to success as a fisher of men or soul-winner. Here they are:
Be filled with the Holy Spirit so that your boldness is strengthened (Ephesians 5:18).
Love all kinds of people sincerely from the heart. People can easily tell if you care about them or if you are doing this just because it is your duty, as if they are just a product on the factory's assembly line. The Holy Spirit pours out God's love in our hearts towards people (Romans 5:5).
Expect God to use you. Set aside feelings of inferiority and negative thoughts about yourself (which the devil can easily plant in your heart when you are going out to share the gospel with someone). This ministry is a privilege! Remember, you are Jesus’ “messenger,” His ambassador, which means you speak on behalf of the one who sent you (2 Corinthians 5:20). Ambassadors do not apologize for their existence!
Have a clear message. Your testimony of salvation is your own experience. No one can take it from you. Remove difficult religious words and explain what the gospel means (1 Corinthians 15:1–4).
Expect a harvest, now or later. When farmers have sown the seed in the ground, they expect a harvest. Is he/she ready to receive salvation? If not, feel free to maintain contact with the individual, if desired. The harvest may come later. Give the person a pamphlet about salvation so that what you have said is not forgotten. Remember to get name, address, and mobile number, if it is OK.
