"The Light of the World" in "difficult times"
Paul describes the end times as “perilous times” (2 Tim 3:1). It is important to know. It is important that we do not resign, but dare to stand up for the truth. We are called to be the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world,” as Jesus calls the believers (Matt 5:13-15). He taught His disciples that the light, the truth, and the life should not be put under a basket, but on a lampstand so that all in the house can see it.
Jesus compares the believer to a city that is set on a hill:
“A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
Matt 5:14
From 1982 to 1988, my family and I lived in the province of Manitoba in Canada. During five of these years, we lived in the mining town of Flin Flon. At that time, about 9000 people lived there. The entire town was situated atop a large hill, a sort of mountain. Long before reaching the town, it could be seen from miles away. Jesus' words remind me of the city of Flin Flon.
We must not hide away and should not be afraid to be seen by people. We are God's image on earth. Do the people around us know that we are saved? God wants the light in us to shine more brightly each day. Our calling is to reflect His light.
The Bible says:
“For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light.”
Ps 36:9
Continuous contact with Him increases the strength of the light.
