God’s method: “Pray without ceasing”

Prophet Elijah prayed that it would not rain, and it did not rain for three years and six months in Israel (1 Kings 17). This was due to Israel's apostasy and idolatry. They worshiped the idol Baal. The drought was severe in Israel for over three years. When the time was right, Elijah prayed again. He prayed for rain from the top of Carmel.

The prophet bent in prayer seven times, with his face to the ground. After each prayer, he sent his servant up to see if rain was coming in from the sea. It was six times no. But Elijah knew in his heart that the rain would come. After the seventh prayer, the servant came with a positive message:

Look, a small cloud as big as a man's hand is rising out of the sea.

1 Kings 18:44

In an instant, the sky darkened and the rain poured down. It pays to persevere in prayer. Do not give up. When you build on what God has promised you in His Word, the answer will come in God's time. Look for small signs of answered prayers. And praise the Lord when the rain pours down – when the answer to prayer comes!

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

James 5:17–18

James 5:16
